As the late Stephen Jay Gould so beautifully stated in Wonderful Life, “Alter any early event, ever so slightly….and evolution cascades into a radically different channel.  Replay the tape a million times from the beginning and I doubt that anything like Homo sapiens would ever evolve again.”

Are you sure Mr. Gould?  Given the same original DNA structure in the earliest organisms seen on earth, and with applied stresses encountered in Pre-Cambrian waters, could they re-evolve through a similar series of creatures to become what we know today?  In other words, were all of the macro-mutations random, or were they dictated by something else, perhaps by the genetic code itself?

On a privately- owned island in the Pacific, Dr. Andrew Collier seeks to answer this question.  But neither his make-shift laboratory, nor the primitive weaponry of the Hawaiians, is prepared to learn the answer.

Author’s Biography

Ellen Johnston Coulombe received her MS degree from Va Tech in Crops, Soils and Environmental Sciences.  She then moved to Kauai where she has lived for fifteen years.   She worked for many years in forest conservation on Kauai, helping others to preserve the beautiful and rare biota on the island.  For the past seven years she and her husband Bruce have owned and operated Wings Over Kauai, giving scenic air tours of the island - an activity they have both very much enjoyed.  She started work on The Mutator fifteen years ago, but only now, with the help of many others, is she finally able to publish her first book.  The Mutator; Island of Nakoa is the first of a three part series.
